Motion Design Project Based on

Magnolia’s Manifesto

During the fall semester of 2025, I was very fortunate to take a Motion Graphic Design class at Husson University taught by instructor Sarah Courtright.

I was really excited about taking this class because I've always wondered how to visualize what a graphic would look like in motion, since I believe this may be the way of the future. We already see motion graphics everywhere. We see so many that we may not even notice all of them now.

For our final project, we were tasked with creating a motion graphic body of work that we would be proud to show in our portfolio. Since it has been a dream/goal of mine for the past 3 years to be chosen to work at Magnolia as a graphic design intern, I thought using their manifesto as inspiration would be a good focus for this project.

As a graphic designer, I believe that it is my job to not only notice but also analyze EVERY motion graphic that comes into my view–which is obviously impossible. But I at least try to analyze every motion graphic that really captures my attention and dissect what it makes me feel and why it creates those feelings. Now I know exactly how much work goes into creating moving graphics that we may or may not take for granted every day.

Color palette for project

I used an Adobe typeface called Satisfy Regular for the majority of this project. For the ending, I used Helvetica Bold to accentuate the words

LIFE HAS NO BOUNDARIES.

I selected the highlights from Magnolia’s Manifesto that I considered most important and searched for short, royalty-free film clips on Pexels that conveyed the appropriate feeling for each quote. I tried to stay within Magnolia’s brand strategy, targeting their audience, which has a great appreciation for family, friends, and the human experiences that make up our everyday lives.

I decided to change the ending a bit, while still staying with Magnolia’s tone. But I wanted to end with “Life has no boundaries” because I am embracing that feeling firsthand by becoming a non-traditional student and pursuing my dream of becoming a graphic/visual designer while entering my 50s.

The transitions I used were mainly swiping shapes left or right, or opening from the center horizontally or vertically. Additionally, I used a spinning transition on the “cartwheeling” slide. I created a handwritten effect by using a track matte that revealed each letter as it was spelled. I accentuated some words by scaling or repositioning.

I want to give credit to the following videographers for allowing me to find them on Pexels and use their material to make my project come to life:
